Mitch Anderson
I’m a 34 y.o ironman triathlete, mixing and matching training with some medical work. OK, really I like sleeping on the job (medical) and getting ready for my next session! I started Ironman in 2000, where I finished 31st at Ironman Australia and was immediately hooked! I spent my youth doing every sport at school I could have a crack at- swimming, surf life saving, football, rowing, cross country running…which I think prepared me for my current lifestyle. Lots of transitions defines my current life- from one skill to the next or one discipline to the other. Sometimes I find myself dressed in a wetsuit with a stethoscope around my neck!
After my first Ironman, I dreamt of Kona glory, but had my hopes dashed with a DNF, as I coughed blood on the Queen K in October of 2000. I stuck at the sport and trained myself to cope with the rigours of a marathon off the bike. I won my age group at my next attempt in Kona, then went on to race as a Pro from 2003. I saw sense and switched to Giant late 2005- it was the best move I ever made. Not only are they the best bikes you could ride, but my best friends in the sport come from the company.
