The third annual Forrest 6 Hour has been ridden and won just outside the town of Forrest over the weekend on the Yaugher trail network. Giant came on board this year as a major sponsor and the event was sold out with the rider cap limited to 400 riders. Mother nature was kind to riders for most of the day but with 20 minutes remaining in the race the heavens opened and the rain came down hard.
As well as donating prize money and prize giveaways Giant had a large display on the finishing straight as well as having a demo fleet of Anthem and Trance Maestro mountain bikes for racers to take out onto the fun and flowing singletrack.
In the racing action Giant athletes put on a great show with Niki Fisher taking out first place on her Anthem X Advanced in the solo female category after a hotly contested battle that went all day with Peta Mullens. The win came as the result of a sprint finish after 6 long hours in the saddle!
In the men's solo category Giant Ironman and all round gun Mitch Anderson swapped his Trinity time trial bike for an Anthem mountain bike and rode to a 4th place finish with Brad Davies riding into 8th place after a hard day on the bike.
Ride with Jess competition winner Eliza Eldridge Bassett paired up with reigning World Solo 24 hour champ Jessica Douglas and rode to victory in the female pairs category. Giant Australia flew Eliza down from Canberra to race and she got to keep a whole bunch of goodies including Oakley sunglasses, Giro Ionis helmet, Shimano shoes, Pearl Izumi clothing and Giant race kit. Giant surprised everyone at the end of the day by announcing that she could take her race bike home with her which was an Anthem X-1.
The victories continued with Nicole Whitburn and Conan Daley taking out 1st place in the mixed pair category on their Giant Anthems. Giant would like to thank the Forrest MTB club for putting on such a great event. See you again next year!
