Tour of Bright 2011.. Drapac clean up!

Dec052011

The inaugural Tour of Bright race held each year by the Alpine Cycling Club has taken place once again under beautiful conditions and stunning backdrops. All grades were hotly contested and the Giant sponsored Drapac Professional Cycling team were on hand with a full line-up of riders to tackle the tough mountain stages.

Giant Bicycles Australia were also a major sponsor this year with loads of cash up for grabs as well as a TCR Advanced 2 road bike being given away, congratulations again to Rod Commerford for winning a brand spanking new road bike!

The elite men's race saw Adam Semple from Drapac take out Stage 1 convincingly as he broke away before the Bogong climb and held his advantage all the way to the top of the stage finish at Tawonga Gap finishing more than two minutes ahead of his nearest rival. Adam held the general classication lead through the stage 2 individual time trial and also up the lower slopes of Mount Hotham to win the race ahead of Alexander Morgan and Ben Dyball.

Liv/giant sponsored athletes did well in the women's side of racing with Nicole Whitburn and Sarah Riley coming 1st and 2nd in the sprint classification, Sarah also finished Top 10 in the general classification.

The Masters 1/2/3 race was probably the most close out of all the grades with Giant/Bicycles Inc. athlete Ciaran Jones taking out the 1st stage up to Tawonga Gap. Ciaran managed to hold onto 2nd overall and won the King of the Mountains race in the process.

Giant would like to congratulate all the people who completed the race as well as sending a big thank you to all the volunteers who helped co-ordinate the event to ensure it was a great success. Congratulations again to Adam Semple from the Drapac Professional Cycling team for taking out the victory and for carrying himself so well all weekend.
