Hey Guys, new to cycling but not in Perth. Living in Geraldton. I'm interested to hear of any "fun ride" events. Planning of doing the ride to Conquer Cancer in october, wondering what other similar type events there are around.

I agree with mark Pittman. The cycle path from Joondalup to the city is terrible.
It winds it way into suburbs, across pededstrian bridges and through the bush where tree roots are pushing up the pathway.

Three years ago I did the 60km HBF Freeway bike ride and there was a discussion on the radio afterwards where they said that they were looking at creating a "bike Highway" from Joondalup to the city which will cut 15 minutes of a cyclist time to get into the city.

Well as we can all see, nothing has happened.

Hey guys. I may be attending uni in Joondalup in the next year or two. Don't know much about any good cycling tracks in the general area as I live in the South West. Makes it much more enjoyable when there are great views and good roads etc. Wondering if you could help me out. Cheers

I went for a morning ride on monday...i live near the city and ride to joondalup...i was riding with my girlfriend around 6.15 in the morning...going past a T-juntion where a car had stopped...i went past it and as i passed the car pulled out onto the road to turn right, obviously not seeing either of us, they T-boned my girlfriend who was behind me! The ambulance came and took us both to hospital, she sustained a fractured clavicle and had to have 5 stitches on the back of her ankle and 3 stitches in her finger...thankfully she didn't sustain any life threatening injuries but at the time u think the worst has happened! This brings me to my topic...Perth has absolutely shocking bike paths!!! the one from joondalup to perth, parallel to the Fwy, is a disgrace and thats why i don't use it!...2nd to this the intersection where the accident took place did not have adequate lighting and one of the lights was out on the corner!!!...don't worry from now on my girlfriend and I are only riding in the dark if we're lite up like a christmas tree!!!

This happens too often, it has happened also to my partner, although she sustained a bruised hip and fractured jaw in two places. Still trying to get some money out of the idiot who hit her. It sucks how when you're the victim you have to run around and do everything to get justice.

thats nuts. Ive copped a t-boning, had a car back out in front of me while on the aero bars ... crunched me and the bike, and a good over the bonnet without a scratch ... hallelujah for helmets. But, with all the miles Ive clocked up, these incidents ALL happened in Perth. Is that a common theme with the drivers???

I hear ya. I live up joondalup way and ride past the city for work. Not the best paths/cycle ways along the freeway.
