Description

What moves your moods when you're pushing the pedals?

It could be the pounding industrial techno from your spin class, the Ben Harper playlist for your Sunday pathyway roll-out or the grinding rock and roll ripping through your earbuds as you smash out a new record for your 20km climb.

Anytime actually. On or off the bike, pre-ride, post-ride or the song you most want to hear if you've made it to the podium.

What's in your collection when it comes to getting the wheels rolling?

(Note - Im a fan of safety, like we all should be)

I'm going to take a turn at the front here kids and talk about playlists.

Playlists are those wonderful things that help define us at any particular moment, they help others know how cool (or strange) we are, they set moods, tones and heartrates. One pumping track after another.

My first playlist was a Hit's Hot 83 LP from many moons ago. This is among the stuff we can wax lyrical about.

Yours at 100 bpm.

Oh, and 'Sinnerman' by Nina Simone.
Not just a great song but it really gets the pedals moving - so good.

I don't usually ride with music but when I do I lean towards the heavier side of things to keep me moving. Early Metallica and Pantera, and newer stuff like Protest the Hero and Killswitch Engage have a good strong beat to ride to.
I also really dig Primus: awesome drums and a funky sound - kind of encourages mischief.

Here's a couple of tracks that are on my phone that leap out a me:
Black Dog - Led Zep
Lust for Life - Iggy Pop
Brad Logan - Rancid
The Distance - Cake
The Cowboy Song - Faith No More (seven levels of awesomeness)
Prisoner of Society - Living End

Monster Magnet are great for cruising. And Tool are great for speed modulation.

Happy Trails!

Nice! I concur with Zepplin and Monster Magnet. Have had both in my playlists. Big fan of Primus too, though I don't know how well I can stay focussed with King Les Claypool pounding the wires.

Haha, absolutely - Primus is definitely for urban tomfoolery, not for trails.

for me, listening to music while riding takes away from it all.
so the pre-ride music is important.

since watching Aaron Laroque's 'Whats next?',
all of the songs in it have been added to the pre ride mix,
and really help me psych up!

This video is worth the watch!

Here's some on my playlist ATM. I am doing a lot of high intensity interval training for time trials and these are some of the songs that get my legs going:
Bleed it Out - Linkin Park
Lose Yourself - Eminem
Ballroom Blitz - Sweet
Chase That Feeling - Hilltop Hoods
Shazam - Spiderbait
Not Afraid - Eminem
I Just Wanna Live - Good Charlotte
Breakaway - BigPig
About 30-35 minutes worth in this set. This set will set your legs on fire!

Just added this cos it's a pretty funny song

Anna KanookAnna Kanook on Thursday, 04 August 2011 00:38

You're totally on my wavelength with that list. Breakaway just never got the recognition it deserved- it's a classic.

Tyler BuckleyTyler Buckley on Thursday, 04 August 2011 00:42

That's my mums influence coming out in me same with Ballroom blitz. I used to hate her music but i am starting to like it specially to get my heart rate up on the trainer :)

Tyler BuckleyTyler Buckley on Thursday, 04 August 2011 00:46

Anna forgot to say that they started playing breakaway on the radio here and that's how i first heard it. Its a good warm-down song at the end of the training sesh.

I put a new playlist together yesterday for todays (off road) training including some early Nirvana (Incesticide) some Hives, White Stripes and Queens of the Stoneage.

It ran out just as I turned around. Fortunately my phone then went and played a Pennywise album then backed it up with the Pixies. I feel like there's a DJ in my jersey - albeit one who likes to hurt me.

Leanne, you should get on board the sexy legs group. I believe that great legs are better shared.
